Vista Update at Last

The first service update for the entire range of Windows Vista products has finally been released. Microsoft, makers of the Vista operating system have claimed that the update will improve the stability, performance and security of the operating software. Also known as a service pack, it will include some pre-existing fixes and some that have not been released prior to this. However Microsoft has stated that it may in fact clash with some of the security software that some customers may have installed already.

The service pack will be available as a downloadable update although customers can wait until mid-April when the fixes will be automatically installed upon their computer. Microsoft has advised customers who have gone out and bought the service pack to download certain “prerequisites” that are needed for the install of the update. These prerequisites are generally updates already in circulation that will make the installing of the service pack easier.

The service is pack is likely to clash with some types of drivers that will need to be removed before the update can be installed. Customers are advised to visit the Vista blog if they have any queries, as there is a wealth of support articles to help with instillation. Of the programs that may clash with the update are anti-virus software BitDefender and Trend Micro.

The update will originally only be released in five languages; these are English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese. More languages will of course follow in mid-April when the update becomes automatic. Microsoft are advising customers to use their Windows Update program to install the service pack rather than download, this is mainly because the file will be much smaller and Windows Update will also be able to diagnose any driver problems before instillation. One thing will be on the lips of Vista users though; will the new OS now be able to compete with its predecessor, XP?
