How Twitter Stats Compare To Facebook and Buzz
Wednesday, den 24. February 2010On Monday Twitter revealed how it has grown since 2007, and how much activity the social media service is seeing at the moment. There have been some reports that suggest usage of Twitter is waining, but Twitter’s own data tells a different story.
Twitter Activity Rates
It is problematic to compare activity on Twitter with runaway social media leader, Facebook – as well as Buzz – because the users carry out distinct actions on each platform. But the new data states that Twitter registers approximately 50 million tweets a day, which equates to 600 per second. This is compared to 700 Facebook status updates per second, and the most recent data from Buzz states there are 55 Buzz posts per second.

Google launches Google Buzz
Wednesday, den 10. February 2010Google’s latest social network Google Buzz launched this week, pitching directly against popular rival sites Twitter and Facebook.
Google Buzz is directly integrated with Gmail and, although not yet available to all users, is expected to be rolled out into all accounts within a week.
Buzz appears to be a hybrid of existing networking sites; there are the intimate networking facilities particular to Facebook which allow communication and sharing between those already connected to each other, and the mass-broadcast opportunities offered by Twitter.

Facebook ReTweets Again
Tuesday, den 19. January 2010
Following on from last week’s privacy bombshell, Facebook have sneakily rolled out a new feature which could potentially further impinge on user privacy – their version of Twitter’s popular ReTweet function, the Via feature.
The ReTweet or Via functions allow for a user to share another user’s post or link with their own friends list, giving the link or item a potentially bigger readership. On Twitter, this is simply done by typing RT @username before copy and pasting the post in, while Facebook’s new Via feature works by clicking ‘Share’ from an item posted in your news feed and a line saying “Via *Friend*with a link to their profile appears. Researching users as far afield as America, Europe and Australia has led us to believe that this new feature is live for all users. Give it a go yourself.

Twitter Already Seeing Profits

Although much of the talk surrounding social networking and social media this year has revolved around how fast Twitter is growing and how upset users are at whichever update Facebook have rolled out this month, there has been another focal point: just when will Twitter start to make money, and how will it do so?

Google Unveils (Limited) Facebook Integration
Tuesday, den 8. December 2009The Update Deluge
There’s been talk of real-time being the future of search for a long time, and with the world’s biggest engine implementing it yesterday, it seems that the future’s finally here – or at least the beginning of the future. Google’s real time results appear in a sliding box in the regular search engine results page and are updated constantly. It’s certainly a step towards a fully-realised real-time search function for Google, and it looks like they’ve become the frontrunners in the “real–time arms race” between them and Microsoft since both parties announced their intentions towards regularly updated results in October.

Twitter Not For Sale
Tuesday, den 24. November 2009
Although it seems that much of the current talk around microblogging phenomenon Twitter is about the development of an array of revenue streams, co-founder Biz Stone has denied that the company is for sale.
At an Oxford University event this weekend, Stone categorically denied that Twitter was looking to sell to the likes of Microsoft or Facebook, though he did hint at the potential of following in Google’s footsteps and taking the company public. He told reporters at the event that ‘We are definitely not interested in selling the company’.

Twitter Adds Photo Support For UK Users
Tuesday, den 17. November 2009
Microblogging phenomenon Twitter has added support for MMS picture messaging to its service – but only for UK users.
Twitter has allowed users to update their status on the go with text messages for a long time, which is partially credited with its success, allowing users to tell people what they’re doing at almost any time of the day or night providing they had their phone on them, but there was no similar support for pictures. Consequently, sites such as Twitpic and Twitxr have been used when people feel the need to share their pictures, and while they work fine, the ability to post pictures directly from phones via MMS would certainly offer more convenience for users who aren’t equipped with smartphones like BlackBerry’s or iPhones.
