See, Hear And Chat With Google

BT may still have the monopoly when it comes to telephone communications, but with new innovations becoming apparent every day, they may fast be losing their edge. Internet and email are no longer solely reliant on a BT line but they have kept the upper hand when it comes to actually chatting live with others. Not for much longer.

Google are introducing a new service to users of Gmail. Already a free email service, new tools will be made available to customers to enable them to use a video and audio channel in conjunction with their email.

Seeing and hearing your mail recipient will require nothing more than a free piece of software and a webcam. Many laptops are already equipped with embedded video equipment, so for those lucky users the whole service comes free to start up and run. As long as all users have a Gmail account, which is already free to sign up to, then connection can be made.

This is Google’s latest weapon against the competition of Yahoo and Microsoft who have been offering instant messaging services for quite some time. The difference with Google’s new offering is that, unlike Yahoo and Microsoft, this service is available through the free email applications. It is hoped that this new ability will shift Google’s email service from third position in an upwards motion.
