Kelkoo and Overture

Overture and Kelkoo were also acquired by Yahoo with both becoming great success stories, Overture was to become Yahoo Marketing whilst Kelkoo was to become the jewel in the crown of online shopping portals.

The marketing and development of Kelkoo became a shining benchmark for web engineering that for the first time successfully harnessed the functionality in web architecture that is needed for successful Internet search engine marketing.

The SEO industry should see Kelkoo as the blueprint for creating large web portals designed to deliver products to the world through a combination of marketing strategies that for the first time included a real understanding of a search engine friendly design and that would allow its many pages to become accepted into every day search results in facilities such as Google and MSN. This unprecedented explosion not only allowed the Kelkoo product pages to be included in the database facilities of search engines such as Google but they were to excel in search results providing millions upon millions of visitors into this Yahoo Portal from other search facilities.

With the closure of 2004 Yahoo could look back on a monumental building of a global brand, 10 years of expansion and embracing of new technology ensured that the ‘collection of favorites’ started way back in a trailer by David Filo and Jerry Yang was a global success story.
