Intel Pursues Mobile Internet Success

Processor manufacturer Intel has made claims that in the next four years the number of mobile internet devices will increase greatly. A survey carried out for the company estimates that by 2012 over a billion devices will be in circulation. The statement came at a press conference releasing Intel’s new series of chips specifically designed for mobile internet use. They claim that the demand is there for such a product which is why they are pursuing mobile applications wholeheartedly.

The statement from Intel marks a growing trend of internet users wanting to be connected at all times. Having a processor that is specifically designed for this purpose that is both versatile and powerful will only act to service the needs of the modern internet user. This however is a relatively new venture for the processor company that has dominated the home computer market.

An industry analyst argued that Intel would essentially be ’starting from scratch’. Currently the most dominant processor company in the mobile industry is Arm, for Intel to encroach on their territory they will have to release powerful and malleable chips specifically designed for surfing on the move. Intel however have a great deal of knowledge in the processor industry and if they can use this experience and know how they should be able to reap the benefits of what is expected to be one of the most competitive markets in the technological sphere.

However Intel decide to tackle the problems that mobile internet usage brings, the move to encroach into this market sector is understandable. As people find it ever harder to unplug and want to be in contact at all times, any success in the mobile processor market will be lucrative. Industry analysts will be waiting with baited breath for the new processors to assess how they perform in comparison to competitors’ models.
