Google Voice Search Could Be Winning Factor In Mobile Search Capabilities

phoneIt is no secret that Google is the world’s most popular search engine and favoured platform for search engine marketing activities; but with demand for mobile search capabilities on the increase, the company may need to corner an altogether different market to stay ahead of competitors. Latest statistics reveal that people in densely populated countries such as India and China use mobile phones more than computers to access information, and as such, Google is finding itself up against Nokia, Apple and now the Chinese search engine Baidu.

Baidu

In response to a growing demand for mobile search, Baidu is launching a mobile search application that will be preinstalled on handsets in a bid to outrival Google. Although in China Baidu accounts for around 70 per cent of online search compared to Google’s 20 per cent, the ultimate success will come to whichever company grabs the opportunity to tap into the mobile market first. The race is well and truly on as Baidu comes close to reaching a deal with mobile handset manufacturers.

Mobile Search

As always, the goal is to produce a platform that provides relevant search results quickly; and because users have to pay to access data via mobile devices, the customer is understandably selective. TV companies as well as mobile phone providers are trying to give their target audience a package that will work immediately with their chosen handset to deliver only the right content. It is possible that specialist search services that focus on a particular niche is the only realistic way forward, if so, it is possible that Google may be too big to compete.

Google Voice Search

However, Google Voice Search is a new application that could well pave the way for another Google success. A voice activated search capacity not only provides an even faster way to request search results, it also bypasses the need to invest in big budget smartphones and PDAs that provide a qwerty keyboard for speed. Rather than interfacing with a new technology, Google could command dominance by making the need to type redundant, which cuts out the frustration users of a 12 button phone experience when accessing the internet.

This means that the majority of phones that users already own will be up to the job. Instead of having to invest in new technology and decide which mobile search will provide the most efficient application, access is available on existing handsets. Google has also made sure that the application is tailored for target audiences to outdo the likes of Baidu. The voice recognition is able to understand Chinese, Indian English, as well as recognise specific Hindi or Indian words. When this capability is combined with the application’s location awareness, it gives fast search results that are more likely to be relevant, which at the end of the day is the winning combination.
