Google Offices Like Working In A Funhouse

Working for a Dot Com company has been renowned for its relaxed working office environment, beanbags and free pizza delivery, but none can compare to the working environment of the search engine giant, Google. Those looking for a fun relaxed wacky atmosphere will certainly find this when applying for a job at Google.
Google has built its offices based on creative inspiration, in aid of allowing their staff to work on a stress free level. The offices contain a designated games room, chill out aquarium and larvae lamps. Food come free, staff can get from one department to the other in no time by sliding down a pole or they can go down a slide to get to the cafeteria quickly.
The meeting rooms or meeting ‘pods’ are designed resembling Swiss Chalets and igloos; these were designed for their new engineering headquarters building in Zurich, Switzerland. The some 300 engineers, who will be based there, designed this unconventional office. Google has been known to work in unconventional ways, but this move is also to highlight that they will no longer be centred in the US.
Recent criticisms over Google’s expanding business will grow even louder, further to its decision to spread its wings and continue with the expansion. Google remains to this day a company that puts their users first, before making money. Recent drop in share prices, by approximately 18%, has seen that even Google is not immune to the downturn of the US economy, which raises the question of how long they intend to put users first before profits fall further.
Nevertheless, Google treats its staff with respect and look after them well. All the staffs are given access to every bit of code, design documents and confidential information from the moment they start, presenting a team orientated atmosphere. As a third of the company is made up of engineers, they are offered 20% of their time off from doing work on their key objectives and instead doing something new.
They may have the slide and pole to make things interesting for their engineers, but few have questioned their ever-increasing dominance of being the world’s provider of information. However, amidst all the criticism of their working standards, their engineers will continue with their claims that they find great inspiration in the chill out aquarium room.
