Google Maps Mobile Apps Up To Speed
Posted Monday 12th January 2009 by Tobias in SEM News.
Many avid mobile wireless internet surfers were perturbed by the Google Maps application’s functionality when searching for business addresses. Although it generally only affected the diehard mobile applications enthusiast, it was an area where Google really dropped the ball.
Google Maps delivers directions and contact details to destinations however in the previous version of Google Maps, whenever a user inserted a name of a business, the software would only recognise it as part of the address. This seems like a rather elementary oversight and has now been corrected.
The server issue has now been resolved which means that users will not have to do anything to correct it. The application can now disambiguate between company names and addresses allowing for contact details and directions of business to be more accessible.
The oversight was surprising to many and maintains a trend of Google Maps free apps as being somewhat slow on the uptake, as they were with voice activated search. This is version 1.7.1.4, so fingers crossed they have got it right with this one.
