Early signs suggest that ‘Big Brand’ Sites are now more favoured than smaller sites, although Cutts was quick to dispel this stating that Vince does not necessarily push brands to the top of search results, but is more focused on factoring trust into the algorithm for more generic queries.

Brand New Technology Proposal Gains Financial Support
Wednesday, den 22. July 2009
It sounds like something out of a sci-fi film, but Light Blue Optics has recently received funding to develop holographic laser projection technology. This futuristic sounding technology is touch-enabled and means that any surface that is flat, such as a table can be transformed into a touch-sensitive display. What this does is remove the need for a touch screen and allows users to directly interact with multimedia content.
Other companies including LBO have been promising mini-projectors that can be incorporated into mobile devices for quite some time now. We have been offered a few different devices but none have boasted the technology that LBO is boasting. They claim that the holographic laser technology will deliver vibrant colours and have focus free operation, whilst remaining in the class 1 laser safety classification.
So LBO have managed to impress investors with their proposed technology, netting the project an impressive 15 million dollars. This money will accelerate the development of this technology with interest in the markets automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. But just to clarify, the term ‘holographic’ refers not to the projected image but to the actual method of the projection. Mini hologram projectors are still something of science fiction for now.

Internet Goes Wacko For King Of Pop’s Memorial
Thursday, den 9. July 2009
The performer Michael Jackson’s death last month has proved to show the beginnings of a new era for the internet. His memorial service that took place in Los Angeles on the 7th of July increased global web traffic by up to as much as 33 per cent during the event.
Internet analysts and industry watchers have said that the power of the web has proven its ability to share information, allow people to interact and produce content on the day of Jackson’s memorial service.
‘The web lets us connect and see the story from multiple views unlike TV,’ said Mashable’s Ben Parr.
Mr Parr believed that the Jackson memorial service would be the biggest event ever on the web. Akamai, which is a streaming media service that deals with 20 per cent of the world’s internet traffic, said it was the second largest day on their network. The company went on to report they had close to four million visitors a minute from 10am Pacific Time, around the time the memorial service began.
It was the 25th of June when Michael Jackson’s death was announced that saw the biggest day, with over 4.2 million people visitors looking at news sites online to find out what had happened to the King of Pop.
Facebook also saw this increase during the day of the memorial, as the world’s largest social networking site they reported one million users had posted around 800,000 status updates that were about broadcasts of the service. They also pointed out that although there were 1.8 million updates containing the word ‘Obama’ during the president’s formal ceremony, Jackson’s death had been unexpected whereas the inauguration had been planned for months.

Detailed Terrain Map Of The World Published
Wednesday, den 1. July 2009
One of the most detailed terrain maps of the world has been recently published, created by 1.3 million images that were provided by both NASA and the Japanese trade ministry. Theses images were taken by Japan’s Advanced Space borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (Aster) that are aboard the Terra satellite
The result is a map known as the Global Digital Elevation Map that covers 99 percent of the earth’s surface and will be free to download and use. The Terra satellite is usually used and committed to monitoring the earth regarding volcanic eruptions through to rapid increase of algae in aquatic systems, known as algal blooms.
For the Aster map measurements, local altitude was mapped at points just 30 m apart, Woody Turner a NASA programme scientist said ‘This is the most complete, consistent digital elevation data yet made available to the world.’ Turner has been working on the Aster mission.
‘This unique global set of data will serve users and researchers from a wide array of disciplines that need elevation and terrain information.’
Before the Aster map, the most detailed topographic map was NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, which covered an impressive 80 percent of the earth’s surface. However that mission’s results were less accurate in areas of steep terrain and deserts.
NASA is now working to combine previous data with the new Aster results to improve the detailed map even further.
