Consumers Flock To Viral Advertising

extreme-sheep

If you were amazed by the choreography behind the Sony Bravia adverts which featured a mass of bouncing balls, exploding paint or plasticine rabbits, you probably experienced a moment where you were unsure whether it was clever digital animation or the real deal.  The trend towards using real content for advertising purposes continues in viral marketing to create content that people really want to watch and share.  Extreme shepherding is the latest instalment that is causing a stir, boosting the popularity of viral advertising.

The Curious Case Of Google Street View

maps_logo_small_blueOne of the largest marketing pushes for a single product in Google’s dynamic history has hit a slight teething problem. Google Street View is an application that bears resemblance to virtual tour software seen on many websites, however instead on a single facility it is spread across select destinations around the globe.

The application is a generational leap from Google maps and satellite software which shows 360 degree rotation of streets in selected cities and 290 degree vertical panoramic views. It is based on a series of photographic images taken from one of many camera mounted cars that have been up and down streets in major cities across the globe.

Battle Of The Browsers Is Back On

ie8-performance-vs-from-google-chrome-and-firefox-2Chrome slides back to beta while IE8 promises the world but Firefox is still closing the gap. After dropping the beta tag and launching Chrome 1.0 in December last year it seems that Google have taken their browser back to the drawing board to apply the feedback they have obtained from the last six months.

Users can download the ’shiny new’ beta version while will removed Chrome 1.0 automatically. The improvements are mainly focussed around speed and Google maintains this is a step in the right direction, as opposed to an admission that Chrome was not ready to lose the beta label.

Microsoft Takes Photography to A New Dimension

photosynthIt has been claimed that the advances in digital camera technology have pretty much reached a peak, as far as picture quality goes anyway. Apparently, 12 mega pixels are all a camera needs to produce a high definition shot, and the only way forward is to improve the performance of high spec SLRs is to concentrate on colour accuracy or application of digital imagery. Photosynth from Microsoft Live labs is one such application that promises to take digital pictures into a new dimension, literally.

Digital Medical Records: Stimulating Or Suffocating

dsfThere is a furious debate raging across the Atlantic focussed on whether medical records should be digitised and centralised. Since the initial concerns about the launch of Google Health in spring last year, most recently typified by unconfirmed consumer groups claims Google had been lobbying to allow the sale of medical data, the concept of electronic medical records has divided opinions.

Yesterday Google Health introduced a new feature that allows third party access to medical records. The ‘Share This Profile’ feature enables another person to access a profile by sending email notification with a link. In response to concerns regarding medical data security, Google Health have reassured that the third party cannot alter any data and access is only valid for 30 days.

What Does The Recession Mean For Search Engine Marketing?

search-engine-marketingThe current economic climate has changed the face of marketing, with trends in many industries showing a return to core operational business systems. The resultant consequences are that organisations are downsizing projected growth over the short to mid-term to cut costs which is bad news for professionals in roles such as sales and marketing.

Industries which are worst affected such as the financial services industry have been making widespread redundancies in these aforementioned areas, leaving many sales and marketing professionals out of work. The elaborate marketing budgets of the last decade seem to be evaporating and return on investment is the new focus.

Technology To Make The Mind Boggle

siftables1A while ago we reported the anniversary of the humble computer mouse and declared that it may be the one constant on which this ever changing world of computer technology relies; at the time however, we had no idea that the mouse may become the computer itself. The latest development in interactive computer interfaces has seen the creation of computerised smart blocks called ’siftables’ at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Siftables are small cubes similar to children’s building bricks that have in-built screens, battery, accelerometer and memory, and boast the same computing power as a 1980s PC. Each block communicates with another through blue tooth technology and can be used independently or linked to a computer.
