Why Blame Technology For Our Blunders?
Posted Friday 29th February 2008 by Swapna
It would seem that our trust upon the government organisations are diminishing as the embarrassing news of losing private and confidential information of clients and applicants, continues further across to the Home Office. A highly confidential Home Office CD was found hidden in a laptop computer bought off from EBay!
Computer repair technicians had found the CD lodged in between the keyboard and the circuit board of the laptop, in Westhoughton near Bolton. The laptop had been bought innocently and in good faith. Upon discovering the hidden CD, technicians contacted the police, who then sent Anti-Terrorist officers to confiscate the laptop.

Last Autumn saw US courts overturn an order for Microsoft to cough up $1.5 billion to telephone company Alcatel-Lucent after a decision had already been made to force them to pay up for allegedly infringing music patents.
Alcatel patents govern how audio files are converted into MP3 music and they claimed Microsoft’s Media Player software infringed upon these patents. Microsoft are declaring the reversal as a victory for consumers in the never ending battle for consumer choice.

Posted Thursday 28th February 2008 by Catherine
It seems faith in the security of the internet is growing at rapid speeds.
Cybercafés are very popular for internet surfers but internet experts, Jooce, plan to make it possible for cybernomads to have all their own personal data safely stored on the web so they can access it through internet cafes. It will also enable them to share files and folders with friends and family who log on the same way.
It is hoped that this new method will assist the 500 million people who have no internet access of their own and have to, or choose to, make use of internet cafes, providing them with their own personalised desktop.

YouTube Offensive Video’s Cause Blocks

A worldwide blackout of popular internet site, YouTube, for more than an hour on Sunday has been attributed to Pakistani authorities who took offence at some of its content said to insult the beliefs of Islam.
It is claimed that Pakistan ordered its internet service providers to block the site. They apparently did this by ‘hijacking’ YouTube’s web server address. This would have meant that anyone in Pakistan attempting to log onto YouTube would have been re-directed to a different address.

Companies have been able to reserve domains to match their trademark since October last year during the ‘sunrise’ period and this has now opened up to allow anyone to purchase .asia domain names. The first .asia domains are expected to go live on the internet next month.
