Ofcom To ask For More Honesty From ISPs

Wednesday, den 19. December 2007

Consumer satisfaction with Internet Service Providers has been slipping of late.

Broadband providers market their services with a view to supplying the fastest broadband service above all others. However, research shows that if you buy 8Mbit/s, you are actually quite unlikely to ever get more than 4Mbit/s.

Broadband speeds are affected by various factors including distance from exchange and network status but this is not made clear to consumers. Once contracts are signed, with the customer believing they will be getting the ultimate speed and performance from their ISP, they are then committed for at least 12 months.

Politics and Google

Tuesday, den 18. December 2007

Politics has not always been seen as the avant garde of the technical revolution but this is increasingly changing in the run up to the 2008 US presidential candidate race. In times gone past, with less on-demand information being available to the mass audience, candidates courted as many companies and unions in their campaign for votes. The visits to General Motors and other industrial powerhouses for question and answer sessions can be viewed as testament to this outdated form of attracting voters.

There is a right way to improve natural search engine rankings and a wrong way. Sadly many choose to turn to the dark side and exploit search engines in an incorrect manner. They use ‘black hat’ techniques to gain quick and easy positions without considering the consequences.

Google – Good Guy, Bad Guy or Grinch!

Thursday, den 13. December 2007

Businesses that rely on Google for higher rankings and achieving good sales target are probably finding December a difficult period, with Google being renowned for constantly changing algorithms and plummeting links to sites that it suspects is only using them to gain a high placement in search results, known as link-spam.

Google determines whether the incoming links are an “honest” representation of the site linking to you, so when it reduces their value in algorithm your website will fall dramatically down in the search engine results list. This could be fatal for companies/business that relies heavily upon organic search results, meaning a massive drop in trade for them.

For next year’s perfect Christmas present, get your name down for the latest technological advancement from Nokia.

New software applications are being developed for translation purposes with numerous uses. Chinese restaurants in the UK often equip their menus with English translations but not always. Google Searches Of The Year

Tuesday, den 11. December 2007

Google recently released its fastest growing search terms for 2007, instead of compiling the list through search entries alone, Google have collated the list along the lines of growing numbers of searches. This filters out some of the ‘Britney’ background noise and gives a valuable insight into fashions throughout the year. Usually coming at the end of the year the list is slightly early in its announcement but with 2008 not far away it gives a representation of the trends present during 2007.

Government and military computer systems have come under sustained attempts by hackers. 120 countries have the technology to do this but it would seem China is the most advanced.

HMV Target Gamers

Monday, den 10. December 2007

HMV Target Gamers
HMV have responded to predictions that the CD market set to decline by 10% per annum by embracing the gaming market. With consumers increasingly downloading films and music CDs and DVDs have experienced a price deflation. HMV had made strides to improve the sales of DVD box-sets as these were perceived by the consumer to have a greater added value. However sales of these have slumped and prices have been slashed accordingly. A DVD box-set of the complete works of Hitchcock cost £90 last year but is now leaving the shelves for £25. The chief executive of HMV Simon Fox stated, “People are getting more for less”.
