Colchester web company backs fight against knife crime

A website started by a Colchester anti-knife crime campaigner with the help of a local website company looks set to become one of the country’s top resources for people affected by violent crime in the UK.
Ann Oakes-Odger started her campaign after her son Westley was tragically stabbed to death three years ago in Colchester. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to bring public attention to the causes of knife crime.
Her website now gets thousands of hits a week and is widely accepted as a major resource for people affected by violent crime in the UK. It is currently at the top of Google when searching ‘knife crime’, even beating articles on the Guardian’s website.
High Position, which specialises in optimising websites to be picked up on search engines, became involved when Ann knocked on its door looking for support for her campaign.
Shaun Parker, High Position’s Commercial Director, said: “Ann’s story moved us deeply. Here was a mother talking from the heart about a social evil which could affect any family, any time. As one of the UK’s biggest search engine optimisation specialists we were well qualified to create a professional high-profile website that would boost Ann’s campaign to tackle knife crime.”
Ann Oakes-Odger said: “The campaign website is a vital tool in the fight against the mindless violence that robbed me of my son. Without High Position the website simply would not be the powerful national support and information tool it has become.”
The website www.KnifeCrimes.org raises awareness of the causes of violent crime, educates young people, trains police, youth workers and community support officers, and supports families affected by violent and gang-related crime.
With more than a decade’s experience in the search engine field – including paid advertising and online public relations – Colchester-based High Position has grown to become one of the UK’s most successful search engine marketing agencies. Clients include Sony Europe, Lloyds TSB, Inchcape, Budget Car Rental, haart, Infospace, Hillarys Blinds and Denby. The company is currently expanding into new premises in the town and has a growth strategy to strengthen its 40-strong team.
